[Web] Kopywrighter

Just copy, please

I'm not a web designer; my specialty is the copy, (content), meta tag keyword research and, to a useful extent, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) writing. If you need design help, I have a number of designers I work with and trust. This particular site was designed by Now: design in the UK and taken with permission from one of the internet's foremost open source web design sites, OSWD.org. oswd.org keeps alive the original intent of the worldwide web, to share information and projects freely.

Power-Boost Your Website... Get a Jump on Your Competition!

So what has your website done for you lately?

Are you getting all the hits you want, are you getting the conversions you want, is your website generating revenue?

Or is it just sitting somewhere out there in the ether of the internet, waiting to be found?

When someone does stumble across it, does it do the job?

Are you making sales, directly or indirectly?

Or are you using your website as a static, electronic billboard: pretty to look at, composed and designed well, but ultimately, lifeless? Is it generating that call to action you need... the email requests for information, appointments, orders, or calls to your switchboard?

What exactly has it done for you lately?

Think about your own habits as you click on a new, unfamiliar website... if you can't find what you're looking for in a matter of seconds, or the site is too cluttered or hard to navigate, or requires too much clicking back and forth between pages, chances are, you're already going back to your search results to find another, better site, one that will answer all your questions, one that will sell you the product or service you want, at a price that's best for you.

I'll say it right here: I'm biased. Because the single most important facet of your website is the content, the copy, the words. Because all those pretty pictures, flashy animation, graphics or carefully researched colors aren't going to sell your product or service.

Why strong copywriting is essential

All those things are important, of course, and I don't mean to diminish the creativity of web designers. But consider a juicy steak you've grilled on your outdoor barbecue... it's transferred to your plate, hot and sizzling, but if it's not cooked the way you want it, if all the flavor has been scorched out of it, or it's too underdone for your tastes, you're not going to enjoy it; you've wasted your money. What you want is something that's appetizing and appealing, of course, but once you start digging into it, it has to be just right for your tastes, so you'll enjoy every last bite.

So the "content" of the website is the flavor, the taste... and when you discover you've read every word, you get the same good feeling you have when your plate is clean... but find you still want more.

Great copy is what keeps you reading, what draws you in. It answers your questions, eases your doubts, and convinces you to take action... thanks to the skill of the copywriter!
