The Kopywrighter 6-Step Writing Process

(The Client-Kopywrighter Relationship)

Initial Consultation

The initial interviews can be on the phone, via e-mail or in person. This information-gathering process may take 30-40 minutes and is the time for both of us to ask questions… determining both the scope of the project and the feasibility of a mutually beneficial working agreement. I may also request peripheral materials, including company brochures, data sheets and other useful information.

Follow-Up

Within three (3) business days (and often much sooner), I’ll submit a quote for the project, including fees and expected target dates for succeeding steps, as well as the anticipated completion date. Generally, fees are determined by the project, not by an hourly rate. During this time frame, I may have some additional questions I may need answered about your products, services and your target audience.

Research

Upon approval of the quote and agreement on fees, I’ll review my notes, then begin my research, if necessary. Generally, research should last no longer than one week.

First Draft

I’ll begin the project, and submit the first draft in about 10-14 days, again dependent on the project. I am very prompt and will likely meet all deadlines before the target dates.

Review

You review the submitted work and make note of any changes. We discuss any revisions until there is complete agreement. You will not be charged for revisions unless the tone, structure or general slant is dramatically changed. All revisions are done on my time, which holds down the cost of the project.

Revisions

I make any revisions and submit the final copy to you. Payment will be according to a predetermined, agreed-upon schedule.
